The Layer Marney Tower poses a great day out in Essex. Although it is the tallest Tudor Gatehouse in the country, Layer Marney Tower doesn’t dominate the skyline until you are almost upon it. However, sail up the River Blackwater as a marauding invader and you couldn’t fail to be impressed by its stately grandeur.

There are six tented encampments in the grounds of Layer Marney Tower each named after one of the wives of Henry VIII.

Each encampment has a main tent sleeping up to 6 people in comfortable beds, there is a plumbed in loo, cold running water to the kitchen sink, and battery operated lights. A comfortable sofa and large table and a wooden floor running throughout and onto a large veranda, that adds 1/3 to the living space. There is an indoor and outdoor cooking stove fuelled by logs that are provided. There is a private shower. Three of the encampments have hot tubs

There is a small shop that will supply items you might have forgotten and they can order food in for you.
