nice clean toilets
Most of the site is retirement bungalows and the drive has a barrier after 7pm so very quiet and secure.
Touring area is a small compound with 10 long thin pitches - these are narrow so that a car will not fit alongside the van. There is then a narrow piece of grass with bushes dividing up the pitches so not much fun for sitting out as you are very close to your neighbours! No views other than the fence!!
Most of the people seemed to be regulars or long term stayers but were friendly.
Toilets were half the block that used to be used when it was a bigger site. This means that there were 3 toilets and 3 showers (unisex) which was fine for the 10 pitches. Very clean showers and toilets although fairly old.
Sewage and water on pitch which was handy.
Sainsburys a couple of miles away.
Dog walk on site - short and lots of poo despite the provision of a bin. Access off the drive to the woods which are nicer to walk in.

Rudest owners ever encountered!
My partner and I stayed at the Riverside campsite last week and were immedietly dissapointed to find the campsite is not 'nestled on the banks of the River Severn' as is described on the campsite website.
The river is on the other side of a road, hidden by trees and bushes- hardly 'nestling' really.
We then found the owners, especially the lady to be so rude and short with us it was actually quite shocking. We politely asked if, as the site wasn't that full and our tent was only small, if we could situate ourselves nearer to the bushes on the edge, we were then what I can only describe as being shouted at by the woman owner saying; "Absolutly not. No way. The outside is reserved for people wanting the electric hook ups. No chance".
Ok, ok we both thought, a simple; "I'm afraid that may not be possible, sorry" would have done!
As it transpired, we stayed there for two nights (we did pay for three nights, but found the atmosphere to be not that friendly so left early) and the site was never full with loads of free space around the edges we could have snuggled our 3 man tent into.
Come on guys- lighten up and treat your paying guests with more respect and give us a smile at least!
The final straw came when we were rudely waved away from a parking space by the woman owenr one moring when we were going to use the shower blocks- a face as miserable as thinder, she wagged a finger at us and told us to "move"! Again, we were so shocked at her rudeness is was getting funny by this time.
We tried a meal in the pub they own next to the camping, and we had to complain as we had scampi and chips, and were only given a measely 5 pieces of small scampi. The man owners reply was a curt; "We've always sold it with that many, that's the way it is."
It's a shame the owners seem to have such a chip on their shoulders as the campsite itself is fine- flat pitches and shower and toilet blocks. Again though, they shouldn't be advertising it as sitting on the banks of a river, because it certainly is not! You can't even see the river from the field.
A very dissapointing experience means we will not be reccomending this site to any of our camper friends for sure!

Our visit to Petwood
What a difference this site is from many other sites we as a family have visited, clean fresh toilet blocks and there is no mile hike to reach them either. The wardens are on site 24\7 and are very warm and friendly, the site is beautifully situated for woodland walks and a two minuite walk into Woodhall Spa. we have already booked to visit again

AVOID THIS CAMP!!
When you go away on holiday you expect to have a good time at the place you stay but unfortunately it is a shame that the same couldn't be said about this site.
As with many camps you go to most of the people are local to this holiday park. We found that most of them was very rude!! I have read this on other review sites and I didn't believe it until I witnessed it first hand for myself. They are the sort of people that smile at your face and then snipe behind your back!!
The caravan we stayed in was very nice as it was owned by a fellow family member hence the reason for staying.
There is a club on this site and also a pool. Unfortunately the week that we stayed the pool had to be closed down due to human "poop" being found in the pool. The club has entertainment weekly and the entertainment that we witnessed was absolute rubbish!! The karaoke in our opinion was run by a complete amateur who had no clue how to run it. The entertainer wasn't particularly great and the club manager didn't seem at all interested in any issues anyone had.
There is a small site shop which sells very basic things and we found the lady in there wasn't a bit helpful and in fact very ignorant.
Lets just say we didnt enjoy our holiday and we wouldnt advise anyone to stay here as we wouldn't ourselves.

never again
We have just returned from a long weekend at Sheepcote Valley.
We came down to Brighton to attend a Graduation and chose the Caravan Club site as we are members of the Camping & Caravan Club and thought we would be guaranteed 'civilised' camping.
We have used Caravan Club sites before, they are expensive but it’s a price we are happy to pay because you can, to a certain degree, count on the facilities.
While the area available for camping was lovely, the facilities were nearby and, had the site been set out with marked pitches at the usual Caravan Club pitch size, adequate.
There are notices everywhere to pitch 6 meters away, the wardens were insistent on it at reception. Pity they didn't bother checking.
Got the distinct impression they didn't care about the campers & just jammed us in. All 3 fields were the same.
They must have made a fortune this weekend. There were large groups of noisy, drunk single-sex campers often returning at 3 or 4am and no one interested enough to care.
The toilet/shower facilities were not big enough for the resulting number of campers packed into those 3 areas. One morning there wasn’t even any water for a shower.
Shame on you Caravan Club...We came to Sheepcote Valley not Glastonbury.

greetham retreat
Speechless comes to mind. This site is the best we have visited as a cl,It is a very well thought out site with seats for all to use set around the park at different levels where you can take in the spectacular views .There is a pond but not for fishing. The walks are great too. With plenty of information leaflets in reception you can always find something of interest. The shower is large with plenty of room and as a large drying area with seperate sink and toilet always spotless. Rob and Jeanette welcome you on to their site, what a friendly couple they are, we will be returning

brillant site
brillant campsite! have been there once and and were going back again! very very helpful and really lovely site, toilet blocks could do with a update but they are always clean and tidy, if you are camping in a tent its a bit further to the toilet/shower block, but not to far. there is a trainline that is on the other side of the road but its no too noisy and after the first hour we were there we didnt really notice them at all!. no shop on site which is brillant if you have children as you wont be asked : can i have this or that. so the children can jsut play which is great!.nearest supermarket is about a mile away.this is a small site, but not cramped at all. would definetly reccommend if you want peace and quiet!

Worst beds, not great for kids
The yurts are in a beautiful setting, really tucked away from the world. For a group of adult friends, if you hired all 3 yurts together (and if they had different beds in them) it would be great.
We were a party of 7, squeezed into a yurt which would comfortably sleep 4. I really wish the owners had said to me when I enquired about booking that there really wasn't space for 7 of us.
Having stayed in other yurts in Devon, I can tell you these are not luxury yurts as it suggests on the web site. The most unfortunate thing about our stay was the beds. They were soooo uncomfortable. The owners have chosen to buy cheap futons with very thin mattresses, through which we could feel every single wooden slat of the base. I was woken up every time I turned over,by the discomfort. I came home with slight bruising to both hips - not the kind of holiday memories you hope for.
On the plus side....
The compost toilet was fantastic, really loved it. Liked the eco friendly aura of the place too.
What can I say? Get some different beds, stop calling this a luxury yurt holiday, and lower your prices to reflect this. I have paid £100 a night to stay in yurts which were bigger, had more privacy and had fixed, really comfortable beds.
There is potential for these yurts to offer people a great get away, with just a few changes.

ok but pricey
Pitches were easy to get on to but it had no atmosphere as it was mostly bungalows so caravans seemed to be tolerated rather than welcomed. woods nice. expensive for what it is. difficult to judge from the website what you are getting as no pictures of pitches so maybe we expected too much for the price -june 2011

No glamour in glamping !
This site is for the serious back to nature visitor. we visited with 5 children and stayed in the largest yurt, it was a different experience and the yurt looked nice but would not recommend it for young children. The site prefers visitors without cars but with 5 kids and all the baggage that goes with them this was not an option and unfortunately we had to park away from the yurts and lug all our bags over to the yurt in the rain. Because we arrived after 7pm due to accident on the motorway, we were not greeted by the owners and never saw anyone the whole time we were there. We had only 1 tiny solar powered light and candles, it was hard to unpack and get the kids ready for bed and make up beds in such dim light. The Futon beds were the worst beds I have ever slept on and had an awful 2 nights sleep, you could feel every wooden slat through the mattresses. The compost toilet wasn't as bad as I expected but was abit of a jaunt in the pitch black and wet, we were constantly changing the kids clothes and shoes as the grass is long in the field. You wouldn't know that you were on a farm apart from the sheep in a nearby field but we have been there and done it but won't be doing it again. The only difference to this and proper camping was the fact that you haven'tt got to put your own tent up. Give me my airbed any day ! This should be advertised as not for the faint hearted.
