This is a Haven site bookable from the internet from their touring sites part of the website. That’s the easy bit, we went here to give two of our Grandchildren a birthday treat.
The Touring Park is in a separate site from the main Golden Sands static site, in fact it appears to be what was another caravan site that Haven have purchased and is separated from the site by the “Holivans” caravan site.
The Golden Sands Touring Park is nearest to Mablethorpe and has it’s own entrance (obvious if you come in from the South but easily missed if you “lock on” to the BIG Haven signs for the main site. From the Entrance the touring reception is 500 metres away (yes 1/2 a kilometre from the gate) once you reach there you can see the touring fields to your left and right. The fishing ponds are to your left.
Electric (16 amp) is available to most pitches although there are non electric tent pitches too.
Pitches the ground for all the site appears to be un-even and undulating so wedges are a necessity for level pitching. Pitch sizes appear to be huge as all you are asked to do is put your dolly wheel on the marker for your pitch, there is no direction other than that.
Water plenty of water available in blue painted enclosures each with a waste water point, BUT the taps are the stupid push on /timed off type that you can not fix a hose to even the push on supplied by Aquaroll doesn’t fit unless held on tightly.
Toilet/showers two toilet blocks are there one brick the other is off Portakabin construction both have plenty of hot water but also have signs saying that if someone turns on the cold water you will loose the hot water (could cause a few shrieks of surprise). In total there are about 200 pitches for which there are a total off 8 toilets for the ladies and the same plus stand-ups for the men and there are 7 showers for the ladies and the same for the men (or not a lot), these are all in what I would describe as a tired condition.
Entertainment this is available ONLY on the main site so you have to either walk or take your car around there although between 9am and 5pmish there is a “little train” to take you there in total it’s a full 1000 metres to get there with shortcuts ! There are 2 show bars which are both open in high season and weekends in low season but the main show bar is open all the time the site is. There are play areas for all kids (although the inside one for smaller kids shuts at 5:30pm), a swimming pool which is far too small for the site size ( the outside pool was shut on our visit) and an arcade now this is a bugbear of mine as you HAD to walk through the arcade to get to any of the above IKEA style is how Stephanie described it.
There is also on the main site a shop which sold general food items and Haven items (Bradley Bear and Rory Tiger stuff),at premium prices off course, also there is a take-away, and a laundry.
Fishing they advertise fishing lakes and the photo on the leaflet shows what appears to be a huge lake (it’s been taken with a WIDE angle lens though), in reality there are two small ponds which have a god selection of silver fish and Carp which can swim between the two ponds through a pipe which connects the two. Day tickets are £2 and other lengths are available.
The rules are simple
barbless hooks
no groundbait
all anglers must use a landing net
No hooks larger than 10’s
I caught a variety of Roach and Bream to around 1lb although I did see a 10lb Mirror come out the bait this week was sweetcorn—apparently the fish change their favourite regularly so you never know what to use. The nearest tackle shop is in Mablethorpe although you can hire a rod at the touring reception when it’s open.

Places to visit
Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary far cheaper than Skegness and has a small zoo of rescued animals and birds for you to see as well as the Grey Seals ( the number vary but there were 15 when we visited but 6 were due for release a few days later) for the grandkids this was a highlight of their trip.

The evening entertainment was as expected very homogenised and safe of course the kids had Bradley Bear and Rory the Tiger. There is the ubiquitous bingo of course and shows put on by the entertainment crew who despite their best efforts they always manage to mangle good songs into rubbish. WE actually won a quiz whilst there (HOW???? We only got 5 out of 10).
